Josh Wise, Coeur d'Alene
IEDA would like to welcome our President-Elect for 2024, Josh Wise. Josh serves as an Economic Development Specialist for the Coeur d’Alene Area Economic Development Corporation-Jobs Plus. He has been working there since 2018. Prior to working with the Coeur d’Alene Development Corp, he worked with the Regional Economic Development for Eastern Idaho for three years. He states, “I am thankful for that start in economic development and all that I was able to learn from Jan Rogers and Gynii Gilliam, as they have been mentors for me.”
Working in Coeur d’Alene he has enjoyed the collaboration and partnership. “We have had multiple mayors at the same site visit to better utilize companies’ time. This collaboration does not just end at the state border… we are doing more work with Spokane, like jointly hosting the I-90 Aerospace Conference or the recent EDA designation for a Tech Hub.”
Josh says that one his successes he likes to share is, “sometimes I am all nerdy and totally geek out in data and efficiencies, so one area I would like to share is how ED’s can leverage technology. I built out a registration system for our aerospace conference that collects their information, allows booth selection, sends out an invoice for credit card payment, subscribes all attendees to our mailing lists, creates event attendee lists by categories, and notifies partners. This is all done with free or very low-cost software and does not require additional time input on my part. Certainly not a big splashy business announcement, but a practical example that individuals could incorporate in their business.”
Josh considers that Economic Development is going through a shift where it is no longer enough to just say this business came in and provided x number of jobs. “We need to be talking about the quality of the jobs, company values, how efforts enhance the community, address existing workforce shortages, provide guidance and answers to challenges, think big picture, and create long-term opportunities. We are pivotal for the success of our community, but I believe we need to enhance our efforts to make sure that messaging is coming through, so that we can continue to be facilitators in our community.”
Josh is married with three beautiful girls Quincie age 6, Izabell age 4, and Darcy age 2. When asked what he enjoys to do in free time he responds “with three small kids, it seems more of my time is simply spent enjoying my family, but I do like to cook, snowboard, run, and really anything outdoor related.”
